Official injury update – Howe “devastated” as triple blow is confirmed after Dortmund defeat

Eddie Howe has issued an update on injuries to Alexander Isak, Jacob Murphy and Elliot Anderson following last night’s Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

The boss has revealed that Isak has suffered a recurrence of the groin problem that kept him out for Sweden over the international break. It “doesn’t look serious”, but it seems the striker is facing another spell on the sidelines ahead of upcoming games against Wolves, Man Utd and Arsenal.

Howe fears Murphy has suffered a dislocated shoulder, leaving the 45-year-old “absolutely devastated” just a few days on from his man of the match display against Crystal Palace.

Elsewhere, it’s emerged that Elliot Anderson will be missing for “a number of weeks” following a back injury, with Howe’s post-match comments explaining why the local lad was left out of our matchday squad last night.

Howe on injuries to Isak, Murphy and Anderson:

“It looks like a recurrence of the groin problem, doesn’t look serious, but it’s enough to keep him out and that’s a big blow for a player of his quality.

“And then Jacob that looks quite serious, dislocation potentially of his shoulder, so never a good thing to see. I’m absolutely devastated for him but let’s wait and see how bad it is. He’s been such a big player for us.

“Elliot (Anderson) has got a back problem so I think he’s going to be missing a number of weeks.

“It’s a strange one because you look at some of the injuries like Murphy’s shoulder and Elliot’s injury, they’re quite difficult injuries to get your head around but they’ve happened and we have to adjust.

“We can’t sit here and analyse it too much at this moment. We have to regroup the players together and get on with it. We need to pull together.”
